Hello, we’re Huma

It takes time and effort to get to know a company and to understand whether it is the kind of place you can make an impact. We want to help you decide whether Huma is somewhere you want to invest your talent and energy to create a better version of both yourself and the world.

Huma is where some of the world’s most passionate people create the world’s most innovative digital healthcare technologies. Join us and you’ll do the best work of your life — and make a difference in other people’s lives.

Our product spans mobile, backend, web and data. We are pushing the boundaries when it comes to using the latest technologies and architectures, and believe in doing things right both in terms of the quality of our code, and the experience we deliver to patients and health care professionals.

We are delivery focused, but manage to keep our tech debt in check (most of the time!) We have fun building fully native mobile apps, react web applications, and a scalable, resilient, and sophisticated platform to bring it all together.

Running in a cross-functional team, our engineers work closely with product, design, clinical, regulatory, business and quality assurance colleagues to improve efficiency and productivity and solve the difficult problems together.

Decisions are data-driven as much as possible, and the teams are encouraged to be autonomous and improve on the stuff that matters. You’ll always get to express your opinions and debate the right approach. Code coverage is not a dirty word for us, and code reviews are shared by all. We like seeing people grow, improve and learn new skills, so even if you start on the backend, you may end up building mobile or smartwatch apps (if you’re interested!).

Our Product Vision

Medome helps people live life to the fullest by empowering them to take control of their health condition(s). Being focused on people who are living with a long term physical health condition we aim to give users the autonomy to undertake an action in a person’s own way and time, to provide a more humanised feel that is less clinical, acting as an encouraging companion, to reduce access restrictions to fit into the lives and routines of our users and to drive positive behaviour change through providing new value to our users.

Being part of the Huma iOS team is really exciting. You’ll have the chance to explore, experiment, and develop using the latest native iOS development tool in Swift.
Our apps are built with a modern code architecture, using reactive programming for dealing with asynchronous operations and the device communication protocol in Bluetooth. It is powered by a non-RESTful based modern backend — our Stack is never short of fun in terms of learning.

The fun part is when you achieve things as a team; we like our pair-programming, group code review, and knowledge sharing.

At Huma, developing our Android app is all about joy. You’ll be using 100% Kotlin to build an amazing app targeting API level 23. The app is being built with modern architecture and the newest technology. Modularisation is utilised for optimised compile speed and better manageability and scalability. With the state-of-the-art Material Design provided by our passionate design team, you can deliver the best user experience to our users around the globe.

The Android team consists of encouraging, professional, and enthusiastic developers who truly love Android. In an atmosphere of equality, each team member’s ideas are respected and listened to. Code reviews, group discussions, and great team events will enable you to learn new skills and grow quickly together with the team.

“I’ve been working in healthcare based start-ups for the last 6 years. Ever since I’ve joined the sector, it’s been inspiring working on projects knowing that it has the capacity to impact people’s lives. At the same time, the industry imposes unique challenges. There’s a lot of learning. It builds you up — whether that’s through learning about a regulatory requirement in the industry or a use-case of a patient. There’s a given inspiration working for a health tech startup.”

– Rodel

“I used to work in a fashion e-commerce position. When looking for my next move, I had quite a broad search including fashion and e-commerce companies. But Huma attracted me because it’s really making a difference to people’s lives. For me personally, my mum has a long term condition and so I appreciate the impact that improved health technology can have. It’s better than just selling data and focusing on profits. Huma is a place where I can truly contribute.”

Our Stack

We run on a modern stack and have recently delivered the second generation of our platform. Leveraging advanced AWS and other cloud services allows us to do things better, faster, and more efficiently.

We are mostly serverless, allowing us to scale with few constraints and means we’re ready for whatever comes our way.

We believe in failing fast: we test out new ideas, technologies and architectures as quickly and simply as possible in order to ascertain whether they’re a good fit for us.

The only constant is change — we’re always learning new things, and encourage everyone to contribute to the future of our system.

In healthcare, security and compliance are major considerations, which translates to bigger, more complicated problems to solve. We guarantee you won’t lack challenges!
