Huma’s Remote Patient Monitoring solution

Huma’s Medopad platform is a Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) and Telemedicine solution. It can help to remotely manage patients diagnosed with COVID-19 by tracking symptoms, vital signs, and deterioration. It can also automatically flag high-risk patients. A flexible, fast-to-deploy solution, it enables health services to intervene early, optimise clinical resources, and better manage system capacity.

Functionality

How the solution works

It comprises a ‘Medopad’ app for patients paired with a web-based portal for healthcare professionals. We also ship companion medical devices, like digital thermometers and pulse-oximeters, if required.

The app allows patients to remain at home under the remote supervision of their care team. This not only avoids unnecessary travel and exposure, but also helps healthcare systems manage capacity.

Care teams are able to configure thresholds for alerts. They can use the flagging system to identify COVID-19 patients' health deterioration or improvement, and adjust their care plan accordingly.

HOW IT WORKS

How does our app support
COVID-19 patients?

Our app safely manages confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients who are self-isolating using remote monitoring. Patients are invited to download the Medopad app (available on Android and iOS) by their healthcare team to closely track the progress of their COVID-19 infection and to intervene timeously to avoid sudden deterioration.

Symptom tracker
& Questionnaires

Monitor COVID-19 symptoms and their severity with a trackable record and automatic flagging systems that detect deterioration. While COVID-19 specific questionnaires capture important information such as background, pre-existing conditions, contact, and travel history.

Heart rate

Patients can use the phone camera to capture their heart rate via validated PPG (photoplethysmography) technology. Or they can manually input the same data using the pulse oximeter device. There’s also the ability to integrate wearables for passive heart rate data collection.

Telemedicine

Where necessary, a telemedicine feature allows clinicians to speak to patients quickly and safely.

Temperature module

The app can integrate with third-party body temperature devices. Patients can also manually input their temperature readings to capture one of the key symptoms of COVID-19.

Oxygen Saturation

Another vital parameter for early detection, the
app captures oxygen saturation using the pulse oximeter, whether integrated or as a standalone device.

COVID-19 Educational content

An up-to-date section provides information on the disease and its symptoms, and gives advice on how to prioritise physical and mental wellbeing during this time.

team pathways

Patient pathway

Patient is diagnosed with COVID-19.

Healthcare team pathway

Care team prescribes the Medopad app to patient.

Patient pathway

Patient with confirmed COVID-19 receives a unique code for the app, and installs the app on their phone. The patient also receives a pulse oximeter device.

Healthcare team pathway

The healthcare team provides a unique code to the patient, and instructs them to download the Medopad app.

Patient pathway

Patient is presented with specific COVID-19 modules and instructions to monitor vital signs and symptoms.

Healthcare team pathway

All patient data is sent in realtime and can be interrogated in detail. Microsite available for HCP and patient training.

Patient pathway

Patient continues to report symptoms and vitals signs during each day. Further educational content is available within the app.

Healthcare team pathway

Medopad system automatically triages patients based on their vital parameters, and indicates when patient is deteriorating.

Patient pathway

Patient is reassured, engaged in their own health and feels safe at home while care is delivered remotely.

Healthcare team pathway

The healthcare team can initiate remote consultations with at-risk patients directly from the portal to follow-up on their progress and take appropriate action.

Patient pathway

Patient has resumed normal life.

Healthcare team pathway

The healthcare team will have accumulated a large body of patient level real-world data for analysis and research, improving understanding of disease processes and patient pathways.

For providers

How does it help healthcare
professionals?

  • Manage multiple patients with ease

The Medopad app makes it easier to monitor and manage multiple patients at once, and divert care to those most in need.

  • Set alerts and thresholds

By setting alerts you can make sure COVID-19 patients are seen at the right time by the right clinician.

  • Reach out to patients in an instant

Get in touch with patients directly to speak to them remotely and adjust care plans if necessary via telemedicine.

  • Prioritise privacy and security

Patient consent is given via an in-app module, and can be withdrawn at any stage. The healthcare team views the portal securely via desktop or mobile.

Key Benefits

The benefits of our solution

Improve visibility

You can monitor the progression of COVID-19 infection more frequently, without increasing physical demand on the healthcare system, so that patients are sent to hospital at the right time.

Increase patient safety

Remote monitoring ensures you can systematically protect COVID-19 patients from sudden life-threatening deterioration.

Better manage capacity

Use RPM and telemedicine to remotely manage both COVID-19 and high-risk patients (e.g. those who are immunocompromised). Feel confident discharging early, knowing they will receive appropriate monitoring.

Reduce exposure risk

Minimise the risk of infection by using the telemedicine functionality to communicate with patients in their own homes.

Learn from every case

Any data generated will improve our understanding of the COVID-19 disease process, and aid development of treatments and prevention measures.
